Coffey Engineering & Surveying, a premier provider of professional services in Wyoming and Colorado for over 70 years, is currently seeking a qualified Senior Civil Engineering candidate to be the Director of our civil engineering group.
Our headquarters are in Laramie, Wyoming with an office location in Loveland, Colorado. This position will head our engineering team in Colorado.

Position Summary
This position is responsible for engineering management, project management oversight, staff development, and business development for Coffey Engineering & Surveying. The Director of Engineering will report directly to the Executive Leadership Team and the CEO. The person who fills this position is expected to be involved in the company management team and participate in strategic planning. He or she will be assigned business development goals and expected to drive business opportunities both locally and regionally.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Will assign work to obtain maximum utilization of engineering staff 
- Direct contact with clients, building client relationships and rapport 
- Actively pursuing engineering opportunities 
- Works collaboratively with surveying and UAV department heads 
- Implements and holds staff accountable for standards and best practices 
- Technically capable to perform technical review and oversight 
- Provides mentorship to both project management and design staff 
- Identifies prospective clients, assists in marketing to develop new clients, and prepares proposals for services 
- Consistently brings work into the firm with existing or new clients and participates in presentations to clients 
- Makes major design recommendations and design decisions with little input from senior staff 
- Planning design work by discipline for all project sizes and assigns duties to staff working on projects 
- Reviewing correspondence prepared by junior staff 
- Actively participating in quality control of projects 
- Effectively serves as Project Manager on large complex projects or multiple smaller projects 
Qualified Candidates Should Possess
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (Master’s degree preferred) 
- Minimum of ten years of experience in civil engineering leadership—with a majority of that in Northern Colorado and /or Wyoming preferred 
- Professional credentials in WY, CO with ability to obtain more within a year (multiple western states desired) 
- Experience with land development, storm water, energy development and municipal engineering desired 
- Mastery of the technical aspects of civil engineering 
- Ability to mentor, motivate, and lead others 
- Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise 
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
